LYRICS PART 2

Is It Love?

Gail Marten

Is it love, Is it love?

And does it really matter?

Is it true, really true?

Or merely idle chatter?

Is it you? Is it me?

Is it us? Is it we? Is it love?

Tell me why, Please don’t lie,

Will it fly? Specify. Is it love?

Are you mine, really mine?

Or someone else’s baby?

Bottom line, are you mine?

No ifs or buts or maybe.

Are you friend? Are you foe?

Is it yes, Is it no? Is it love?

Am I high, Am I low?

Should I stay? Should I go? Is it love?

Is it love, Is it love?

Or just a game we’re playing?

Is it true, really true?

Do you mean what you’re saying?

Is it you? Is it me?

Is it us? Is it we? Is it love?

Tell me why, Please don’t lie,

Will it fly? Specify. Is it love?

Are you mine, really mine?

Or someone else’s baby?

Bottom line, are you mine?

No ifs, or buts, or maybe.

Should I go with the flow?

Should I care? Do I dare? Is it love?

Is it phony or real?

I don’t know. What’s the deal? Is it love?

Just A Rumor
Gail Marten

It's just a rumor, baby,

No matter what you heard,

It's just a rumor, baby,

Oh, don't believe a word.

It wasn't me on South Street

In that seedy dive

It's just a rumor, baby,

And I've got an alibi.

I was shopping with my mama

On the other side of town

And you know I love you, baby

Ooh, I'd never let you down.

It's just a rumor, baby,

No matter what they say,

I was working on a project

With my protege.

Oh, please believe me, baby,

I'd never lie to you,

It’s just a rumor, baby,

Don’t tell me that we’re through.

Ending refrain:

These lies are ricocheting

You know I ain't been playing

It’s just a rumor, baby, just a rumor, baby, just a rumor, baby.

Just Before Dawn

Gail Marten

Moonlight through the willow,

Tracing shadows on my pillow,

I lie awake here in my lonely room

I’m haunted by an old familiar tune.

Is it a beginning or an ending?

Revelation or pretending?

The echoes of the distant night reminding me,

It’s always darkest just before dawn.

Moon will soon surrender

To the early morning splendor.

I’ve tossed and turned another sleepless night,

Wondering what went wrong and who was right.

Streetlights dim, and dawn will soon be breaking,

And the world will be awaking,

The echoes of the distant night reminding me,

It’s always darkest just before dawn.

Lotus Blossom

Gail Marten

Lotus blossom,

Cradles baby

In your petals

Love eternal

Lotus blossom

Bathed in dewdrops

Warm my dreams in

Golden sunlight

Shadows disappear

Melted by a tear

Floating, gently, floating

Lotus blossom

Breezes sighing

Whispering secrets

Mystifying

Lotus blossom

Hear me singing

Raindrops falling

Ancient rhythm

Shadows in the mist

Time does not exist

Floating, gently, floating.

MAIN STREET BLUES
Gail Marten

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Gonna shake my tambourine,

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Gonna shake my tambourine,

Do a hootchie cootchie dance

Like they ain’t never seen.

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Gonna take my snake along,

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Gonna take my snake along,

Stare at every man I see,

Tell 'em how he done me wrong.

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Sequin beetles in my hair,

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Sequin beetles in my hair,

I’lll shimmy on the corner

In my see-through underwear.

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Wear my ruby velvet shoes,

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Wear my ruby velvet shoes,

Got a switchblade in my stockin’

Ready for a rendezvouz.

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Silver dollars in my hands,

I’m goin’ down to Main Street,

Silver dollars in my hands,

Diamonds burnin’ in my pockets,

Might not have another chance.

I’m rollin’ down on Main Street,

In my yellow Cadillac.

I’m rollin’ down on Main Street,

In my yellow Cadillac,

I’m gonna roll right through this town,

And I ain’t never coming back.

Mmmm. I’ll put a spell on you.

One Of Those Tomorrows

Gail Marten

One of those tomorrows

It will all come true.

Delivery of those promises

Is long, long overdue.

If you can just hold on

That day will arrive

When you’ll finally know

The reason you’re alive.

bridge:

As you have sown so shall you reap,

And, sister (brother), you have no reason to weep.

If there’s any justice,

No need to sing the blues.

Believe in those tomorrows,

What have you got to lose?

When you feel that night is falling

And there’s nothing you can do,

Remember, one of those tomorrows

The sun will rise for you.

Pure Joy

Gail Marten

The moon is full,

The stars are bright,

We’re here alone,

A sultry night.

Why do you keep me waiting?

We could be celebrating,

Why are you hesitating?

It could be happening, Pure Joy.

I like your looks,

I love your style.

Slip off your shoes,

And stay awhile.

Your eyes are hypnotizing.

Your lips are tantalizing,

Temperature sure is rising,

Could this be happening, Pure Joy?

The water’s warm,

The coast is clear.

The tide is low,

Let’s disappear.

My heart is palpitating,

I need some validating,

Some re-negotiating,

It could be happening, Pure Joy.

last time:

Why do you keep me waiting?

We could be celebrating?

Why are you hesitating?

It could be happening, Pure Joy.

Reinventing Me

Gail Marten

I will reinvent myself,

Become another me.

I will circumvent my natural personality.

Find a formula to free

An alternate reality,

And maybe then he’ll fall in love with me.

I will rise at six am

To exercise my chi

Stop at eight and meditate

Achieving harmony.

Change the color of my hair,

Reconstruct my derriere,

Surely then he’ll fall in love with me.

A shopping spree at Lord and T.

I’ll want to look my best.

Scrutinize and then revise

The contour of my chest.
Botox my brow and lift my chin

Fill the rest with collagen.

Then I KNOW he'll fall in love with me.

If I reinvent myself

Will it be me he’ll see?

Or the sweet fantasia

That I pretend to be

When he looks into my eyes

Do you think he’ll recognize

The one and only quintessential me?

Refrain:

Ooh, I’m getting butterflies,

Will he see through my disguise

That I am who I pretend to be

I’m about to vaporize.

Do you think he’ll recognize,

The one and only quintessential me?

Shades Of Blue

Gail Marten

Shades of blue
If I can’t have you
I will walk alone
In the early dawn
Now that you are gone.

Just a fantasy
Of what cannot be
When the day is done
Just a table set for one.

bridge:
Lonely, I live without your touch
I’m missing you so much
A rhyme without a reason
A time without a season

A fade to black and . . .

Shades of blue
Where there once were two
A simple history
The tale of you and me
An unsolved mystery

Just a memory
Of what used to be
When the day is done
Just a table set for one

tag:
Shades of blue, me and you, shades of blue.

Sunday Rain

Gail Marten

Fading dreams and Sunday rain

Sliding down my windowpane

Misty memories of moments in the past.

And I wonder where you are

Are you near or are you far

Did your rainy day dreams ever come to pass?

In the quiet of the night

Just before the morning light

You are with me in a watercolor dream.

The serenity we knew

Walking down the avenue

Stepping through reflecting pools of yesterdays.

Now and then I reminisce

Of the days, the years of bliss

When we walked together

In the Sunday rain.

And lately I recall

When we seemed to have it all

As we walked together

in the Sunday rain.

In the quiet of the night

Just before the morning light

You are with me in a watercolor dream.

The serenity we knew

Walking down the avenue

Stepping through reflecting pools of yesterdays.

The Day You Said Goodbye

Gail Marten

I wondered why you chose

To meet at that cafe

Along the avenue of stars

The scene of all our yesterdays.

Like deja vu

I’d seen it all before

A public rendezvous

Another closing door.

And so it ends

The color fades to gray

No reason to pretend

Just turn and walk away.

Although this was not my first love affair

I’m still remembering… the day you said goodbye.

A sudden chill

The music ceased to play

A shadow crossed the sun

You made your getaway.

The curtain fell

Let’s skip the matinee

Fast forward…let’s avoid

That tired old cliché.

The story’s told

It’s time to turn the page

And play at love again.

Upon another stage.

The drama’s ended and my tears have all dried

Yet still remembering . . . the day you said goodbye.

The story’s told

It’s time to turn the page

And play at love again.

Upon another stage.

The drama’s ended and and my tears have all dried

Remembering… the day you said goodbye.
